The Exhibition Buildings

In order to house the ‘Permanent Collection of the History of Children’s Toys and Books’, the
Municipality ceded three buildings at the picturesque site of Gialos at Nea Madytos.
All of them dispose a courtyard with ample space for various activities, on the coastal
zone of the bay, offering a view of the Venetian Castle towering over Myrina.

One of the buildings (former Veterinary Clinic) hosts exhibits of school life. The adjacent building (former Army Officers’ Club) will be used for temporary exhibitions and educational programs, while the main body of the old toy collection is hosted at a charming traditional building, constructed in 1906, during the final ottoman period of Lemnos, when the building functioned as a school.

Since then, this particular venue was used for numerous purposes, the last of which being
that of a kindergarten. So, the children’s voices which first resound in 1906 and met
the recent voices of the kindergarten children, now become one with the little visitors of the Exhibition and the nostalgic reminiscences of the adults who will retrieve parts of their
childhood.
